Real-Time Address Correction coupled with Blind Key Verification of undeliverable street addresses is a best practice that MetaSource developed a few years ago to assist our clients in cost effectively achieving exceptionally high mail deliverability rates while costing a fraction of what competitors charge for the same result.

We need to begin this review with some fundamental data capture terms. There are many ways to perform data capture and each method will achieve a slightly higher keystroke accuracy rate than the previous at a slightly high price. The base level is one pass data entry, where we rely on a single human being to read the document and key what they see. We tell clients to expect two keystroke errors per 100 (98% accuracy), but they’ll often see one or fewer errors, especially when we can use valid value tables and other techniques to validate that data. For critically important fields, MetaSource uses a blind key verification technique where a second operator rekeys the information “blind” to what the first operator keyed. If they type a different keystroke, our software stops them and they must rekey the field identically. Blind key verification allows us to produce error rate as low as one per 2,000 keystrokes (99.95% accuracy)

With that behind us, the innovation that MetaSource developed was to first key the ZIP code and part of the city name. We use a USPS table to auto-populate the City and State fields, saving money and improving data accuracy. We then key the street address using real-time, CASS certified address correction and standardization software. Typically, 85% to 90% of the records are deliverable. We take the undeliverable records and electronically batch them for blind key verification of the street address.
