How OCR Helps Solve Business Problems

How OCR Helps Solve Business Problems

Everyone wants to capture more information, faster, while spending less time to process it manually. That's a tall order, but document capture technology helps to achieve this quest for digital transformation and efficiency, some of which is much older than you realize.

Case in point: optical character recognition (OCR). OCR has been used widely on a commercial basis for over three decades, and is often central to an accurate and efficient capture process. While you can't "just OCR it," the technology has evolved significantly and, when combined with more recent technologies, greatly streamlines business processes, enhances customer service levels, and adds more to your bottom line.

Here's what you should know about today's OCR and how it helps solve business problems today.

Digital Transformation without Disruption: A Whitepaper

Paper Is Dead! Long Live Paper!

In the four decades since Businessweek published the Xerox research lab article credited with seeding the idea of the "paperless office," reams of news stories, commentary, books, and research have reported on its progress or declared it a myth. It's safe to say the topic, at least, has not been bad for the paper industry.

The path to paperless, apparently, is strewn with paper. You may as well try to create the coffee-less office. Who among us is really prepared to give up our Post-It Notes?

MetaSource & OpenText Hit the One Year Mark

Heather Saltzman | Tuesday, January 23, 2018

It's Been One Year Since the Sale of the Dell EMC Enterprise Content Division to OpenText

January 23rd marks one year since the sale of the Dell EMC Enterprise Content Division to OpenText. While many of the faces have not changed much, other than another year of age, the relationship has developed and we are positive that this will be a huge benefit for MetaSource, our partners, and our customers.

First and foremost, investment will continue to increase in the entire product line. Captiva 7.7 will be released this month, and most recently ApplicationXtender (AX) 16.3 was released in December with an exciting product roadmap. This new version is full of slick enhancements that make AX a tool that is enterprise ready and even more valuable departmentally. Ad hoc text search, pre-rendering, single and batch document scanning, and preview thumbnails just to name a few. As for what we’ll see coming in 2018, emphasis will be centered around integrations--Integrations with other OpenText products, external integration with software like Office 365, and extending APIs to support these integrations.

ApplicationXtender 16.3 Generally Available December 15th 2017

applicationxtender16

We're excited to announce ApplicationXtender 16.3 will be generally available on December 15th 2017.

First, let's address the obvious question... Why did the version jump from 8.1 to 16.3??? Well, the answer is actually pretty simple. The current release for ALL OpenText products is release 16. ApplicationXtender has completely shifted all of its processes, technologies and management over to align with OpenText's internal product and marketing.

OpenText is investing heavily in ApplicationXtender, and all of the products from the ECD acquisition. ApplicationXtender's multi-year road map and strategy is exciting and fully endorsed by OpenText's leadership. Check out our recent webinar on the AX 16.3 demo and AX road map HERE.

The goal of this release is ease of use and a view towards an information management platform rather than just a bucket for content.

BPaaS vs. Content Services & ECM

BPaaS vs. Content Services & ECM

Now that Gartner has gotten excited about replacing enterprise content management (ECM) with "content services," what do people mean by business process as a service (BPaaS)? How does BPaaS compare to content services and why should you care?

What Is BPaaS?

Gartner defines BPaaS as the delivery of business process outsourcing (BPO) services that are sourced from the cloud and constructed for multi-tenancy. Services are often automated, and where human interaction is required, there is no overtly dedicated labor pool per client. The pricing models are consumption-based or subscription-based commercial terms. As a cloud service, the BPaaS model is accessed via Internet-based technologies.

In layman's terms, BPaaS is cloud software plus services when not everything can be automated and/or achieved in software, thus requiring human intervention. As such, you pay for both cloud software and the services wrapped around it, as part of a subscription or on a pay-as-you-go basis. When it comes to ECM, BPaaS can be related to document capture, workflow and document management but only if the software is in the cloud and there is a service component behind the scenes (e.g. data entry, exception handling, etc.)

Information Governance vs. Records Management

Information Governance vs. Records Management

Along with Content Services and Business Process as a Service (BPaaS), information governance is a relatively new term that has gained traction recently, but why?

Information governance is about the effective and efficient use of information in your organization, helping you to make better decisions and to achieve your goals. In this way, information governance has the potential to transform information into knowledge and to help your organization evolve.

This blog explores how information governance compares to records management and how you can take advantage of it.

Simple & Smart Isn't Easy But It Is Achievable

MetaSource Marketing | Saturday, September 30, 2017

Guest Blog: Christopher Wynder, OpenText, Product Marketing Manager – ApplicationXtender

Information is a funny thing; in today’s day and age it has become both a business enabler and an anchor holding back a business. That is because for many organizations information is not on their radar – oh sure they want to manage documents but information is something slightly different.

What is Robotic Process Automation (RPA) & Why Should We Care?

What is Robotic Process Automation (RPA) & Why Should We Care?

According to the the Institute for Robotic Process Automation & Artificial Intelligence (IRPA AI), the term "robotic process automation" (RPA) means, "the application of technology that allows employees in a company to configure computer software or a 'robot' to capture and interpret existing applications for processing a transaction, manipulating data, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems."

Software robots? Really?

Yes. Just imagine what it would be like if those tedious, manual steps in all of your workflows were no longer necessary. Sound to good to be true? It did to us until we experienced Kofax Kapow.

Florida State's Attorney Increases Productivity by 125,000 Hours

When you work in a profession that is document-intensive, it's easy to let things get out of hand. Files you can't find because they're sitting on someone's desk. A backlog of documents that haven't been processed because it takes so long. An inadequate method for searching documents, or worse, none at all. An overstuffed file room taking up much-needed office space, and likely, the need for offsite storage that is expensive and inconvenient.

And what if these issues impeded criminal prosecutions?

ECM: The Rise & Fall of Enterprise Content Management

If you remember Saturday Night Live from the 90s, and Coffee Talk with Linda Richman (Mike Myers portraying his real-life mother-in-law), then this may sound familiar...

Enterprise Content Management: neither enterprise nor content management—discuss.

The term "enterprise content management" – or "ECM" for short – has been problematic at best in its troubled life, and often a complete misnomer at worst. If we believe what Gartner tells us, then ECM is dead after a 17-year run.
